Mabel Elizabeth Whitworth Williams

February 5, 1925 — April 16, 2016

Mabel Elizabeth Whitworth Williams, 91, of Owensboro passed away April 16, 2016 at Heartland Villa in Hancock County. She was born February 5, 1925 in Adair County to the late Reverend E.C. and Mary Myrtle Whitworth. Mrs. Williams loved God, her family, and her many friends and neighbors. She was a wonderful homemaker, cook, seamstress, and friend. She was a loyal fan of UK basketball, an avid reader, and loved to travel. Mrs. Williams found much delight in crossword puzzles, board games, playing cards, and having tea parties with her great grandchildren. Mabel was graced with both external and internal beauty, a keen intellect, and a quick wit. She served in countless positions within the United Methodist Church and the 4-H County and State Extension Council committees and traveled extensively with Friendship Force of Owensboro. Mrs. Williams was also a volunteer at the hospital for over 30 years and a Kentucky Colonel. She was a member of Pleasant Grove UMC, United Methodist Women, and a former member of Eastern Star and Homemaker Club. Mabel had worked at Ken-Rad and for the USDA.

Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, George Franklin Williams in 1964; daughter, Rebecca Jean Williams; siblings, Mae Evelyn Whitworth Squires, William (Bill) Whitworth, and Bernice Lucille Whitworth Gabbert.

Survivors include son, Tony Franklin Williams of Owensboro; daughters, Mary Ann Duncan of Lexington, Judee Gross and husband Clifford of Owensboro, Bonnie Sue Bivins and husband David of Owensboro, Jorga W. Altman and husband Phillip of Owensboro; brothers, James E. Whitworth and wife Phyllis of Paducah, Robert (Bobby) Samuels Whitworth and wife Carolyn of Owensboro; grandchildren, Rhonda M. Midkiff, Dawn E. Crane, John F. Duncan, Nikki R. Fulkerson, Jason L. Bivins, Brian N. Bivins, Elizabeth C. Kline, Alexander W. Altman, George P. Altman; and twenty great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

The service will be 10:00 AM Thursday, April 21 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with the Reverend Mark Watson officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and from 9:00 AM Thursday. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Pleasant Grove UMC, 4730 Pleasant Grove Road, Owensboro, KY 42303
