Sister M. Cordelia Spalding, OSU
Maple Mount Sister M. Cordelia Spalding, 90, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died April 5, 2009, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 73rd year of religious life. She was a native of Holy Cross.
An educator for 47 years, she held her students to a high standard. She was principal and teacher at St. Thomas More School, Paducah, and taught in Louisville, Loretto, and Lebanon. From 1957-60, she was director of novices at Mount Saint Joseph. A gifted seamstress, she was a quilter for her community and director of the Ursuline Quilt of the Month Club from 1988 until her retirement in 2002. She loved to garden and cook, and travel to visit her family.
Survivors include two sisters, Betty Bowling and Lucy Simpson, and one brother, Leo Spalding, all of Bardstown; nieces and nephews, and the members of her religious community.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Tuesday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
