M. C. Shelton

M. C. Shelton, 84, of 4449 Old Hartford Road, died Friday, September 19, 2003 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born on December 13, 1918 in Daviess County, Kentucky, a son of the late Ivan Ivo and Chlora Pryor Shelton.He was also preceded in death by six brothers, Homer, Elmer,Hubert, Thurman, Delbert and Woodrow Shelton, and two sisters, Lucille Phillips and Martha Greathouse.He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with the 4171 QM Depot Fuel Supply Company and served in the 1st, 3rd, 6th, 7th, 9th, and 15th Armies in nine countries in both the European and Pacific Theaters.

Prior to his service to our nation, he worked from 1938 until 1944 for B.F. Goodrich Company as Manager of Credit and Collection and as a partner. When the company was sold, he and his partner Ed Akers started Tri-State Supply.

He was a 50-year member of Owensboro Masonic Lodge # 130, Rizpah Temple of Madisonville, and the Owensboro Shrine Club. He was a 50-year member of TPA, was past president of the Daviess County Lions Club and past chairman of the Lions Club Fair. During his terms (1967 1969 and 1973) he was instrumental in starting the Little Miss and Mister contest so the entire family could be involved. He was a member of the Family Motor Coach Association for 32 years. He was a member of Third Baptist Church and with nine other Owensboro businessmen was instrumental in relocating Kentucky Wesleyan College to Owensboro.He was a Kentucky Colonel.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joan Shelton, three sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie and Greta. Shelton, and Ronnie and Patsy. Shelton of Owensboro, and Stephen and Lisa. Shelton of Rockport; IN, a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Johnny Goodman of Owensboro; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Jenny Shelton of Owensboro and Robert and Mae Shelton of St. Louis; a sister, Mittie Mangold, of Owensboro; nine grandchildren, John and Suzanne Ford, Debbie and Cary Gaddis, Kirk and Melissa Shelton, and Rachel Shelton, all of Owensboro, Kevin and Tara Shelton of Tell City, Sara Shelton of Muncie, IN, Kyle Shelton and Seth Shelton, both of Rockport, In.,Denise and John Conrad of Clarksville,Indiana,nine great grandchildren, Kara and Skip Merritt, Alexandra Ford, Michael Gaddis, and Will and Ben Shelton, all of Owensboro,Hunter and Hayden Shelton of Tell City,and Justin and Jacob Conrad of Clarksville,Indiana. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home where visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Sunday and after 8:30 a.m. Monday. Entombment will be in Christ Chapel Mausoleum at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
