Lynda Smith Youngman went to be with the Lord and her dear parents April 4, 2017 at her home in Owensboro, surrounded by friends and family. Youngman, a career educator in the Owensboro Public School System – and in every other facet of her remarkable life – will be remembered for her brilliant smile, endless compassion and the countless lives she enriched. She was a selfless mother, doting Grammy and friend to all.
Youngman was a true servant leader, leading by example and lifting up others through her deeds and words. Whether it was at school or a ballgame, at Atlantis Swim Club or on the golf course, at the Riverpark Center or just in the aisles of Kroger, she carried with her an infectious energy and genuine love for all that she met. While she had a deep love for her three children, there were countless others who considered her a mother, and her love for them was just as enduring and authentic. A rare spirit like hers lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her loved ones are saddened by her passing but comforted greatly by her deep and meaningful legacy. She was strengthened, inspired and comforted by her deep and abiding faith in the Lord, whom she praised as a loyal member of Christ Community Church. She loved life, and her mission throughout was to help others do the same.
Youngman was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi to the late Perry and Louise Smith. She was a graduate of Wayne High School in Huber Heights, Ohio and Georgetown College, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority.
Youngman is survived by children, Elizabeth Anne "Betsy" Caldwell and husband Bryce of Owensboro, Sam Youngman of North Beach, Maryland and Bradley Youngman and wife Brook of Owensboro; a brother, Jim Smith of Reo, Indiana; grandchildren, Kaden H. Youngman, Ethan P. Youngman, John H. Caldwell and Poppy Caldwell; a niece, Jennifer Nelson and husband Chris; and nephews, Jason Smith and wife Tricia, Shane Smith and wife Ashley, Caleb and Nathan Smith.
