Lyman E. Pierce

Lyman E. Pierce, 100, formerly of 613 Poindexter St., Owensboro, passed away on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Hermitage Care and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Owensboro on October 11, 1909 to the late Lyman and Mary Bell Patterson Pierce. He was a member of First Assembly of God and retired from Medley Distillary after 33 years and the Owensboro Public Schools after 10 years. He loved God, his church, and his family very much. He was proud of his family heritage, his grandfather, Lyman V. Pierce was Owensboro's first police chief. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 74 years who was his childhood sweetheart, Ruby C. Pierce, who passed away on July 31, 2005 and a grandson, William Dennis Pierce in April of 2010.

Surviving are three sons, William E. Pierce and wife Patty of Owensboro, Donald R. Pierce and wife Nancy of Hancock Co., and Robert L. Pierce and wife Freddie Jean of Dallas, TX, four daughters, Barbara Smith and husband Edward of Maceo, Alisa Witherspoon and husband Barry of Owensboro, Sharon Johnson and husband Wavie of Reed, and Dianne Hibdon and husband Robert of Chuluota, FL, 19 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, May 10, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 12 Noon until 6:00 P.M. Sunday and after 8:30 A.M. Monday at the funeral home.
