Luther Mercer

March 18, 1926 — October 20, 2003

Luther Mercer Jr., 77, of Owensboro, died Monday, October 20, 2003 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. Born in Madisonville, Mr. Mercer retired from Glennmore Distillery after 38 years. He was a veteran of the Air Force serving in World War II, a member of the American Legion, a Kentucky Colonel, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Myrtle Mercer; one son, James Mercer and wife, Judy, of Lawrenceberg, KY; three daughters and their husbands, Deloris and Jim Williams of Owensboro, Pat and Norman Frey of Owensboro, and Debra and Jim Ingram of Hermitage, TN; a brother, Stewart Underwood of Greenville, KY; 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at Glenn Funeral Home, burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2003 and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crosspointe Baptist Church Building Fund.
