Lura B. Abel, 87, of Owensboro, died Monday, November 8, 2010. She was born October 2, 1923 to the late Frank and Lily Burden in Ohio County. She was a summer member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and a winter member of Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. She was an Army Veteran of WW II, a homemaker, and had devoted her life to all her children, especially her daughter, JoAnne. She enjoyed walking and was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph V. Abel, Sr., and her seven siblings.
Survivors include her children; Angela (Tommy) Maxwell, JoAnne Marie Abel, Joseph V. (Robin) Abel, and Gina (Allan) King, all of Owensboro; six grandchildren, Stephen Maxwell, Christy Maxwell Dalton, Lindsey Abel Hughes, Matthew D. Abel, Rachael T. King, and Spencer L. King; two great-grandchildren, Kira Maxwell and Matisse Dalton.
Services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM Wednesday, with prayers beginning at 6:30 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, 609 East 4th Street, Owensboro, KY 42303.
