Lucian C. "L.C." Hayden , 81, of Owensboro, KY went home to be with his Lord on August 12, 2011 at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in McLean County to the late, Klispel T. and Lilia (Tucker) Hayden.
He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps where he earned three Purple Hearts. He served tours in Korea and Vietnam and was a Paris Island Drill Instructor for a short time. He also worked with NASA on the Apollo Mission (search and rescue unit) and the Gemini program.
In 1972, after his retirement from the Marines, L.C. started All-American Veteran Locksmith which he owned and operated for many years.
He attended Harvest Baptist Temple and loved Gospel and Bluegrass music. L.C. was a regular at the Hardee's social club and Health Park.
L.C. was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and James Hayden and a sister, Carol Ann Ambrose.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Reneer) Hayden; daughters, Belinda Scheber (Thomas) of Alexandria, VA and Esther Dunlavy (Kenneth) of Owensboro; sons, Dan Hayden (Alma) of Las Vegas, NV, David Hayden (Cynthia) of Princeton, IN and Lee Hayden (Mary Lou) of Newburgh, IN; grandchildren, Lori, Michael and Courtney Pratt, Audrey and Sarah Logan, Justen Hayden, Brooke and Blake West, Barbara Kamm, Clint and K.T. Hayden, and Rudy, Chris and Ryan Romero; twelve great grandchildren; sisters, Linda Roby (Charles) of Panther, KY and Betty Hicks (Hub) of Livermore, KY and many nieces and nephews.
Services are at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with entombment at Rose Hill Cemetery. Pastor Warren W. Haughton will officiate. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.
