Dr. L.P. Moore, Jr., 94, of Owensboro, passed away Sunday December 20, 2009 at his home. Born in Greenville, the son of the late Dr. L.P. Moore, Sr. and Iola Adkins Moore, Dr. Moore graduated from Vanderbilt University and the University of Louisville Medical School, after which he obtained his Ophthalmology Fellowship from Tulane University. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he served in Iceland and the South Pacific for five and a half years. Dr. Moore practiced ophthalmology in Owensboro until his retirement in 1986. Dr. Moore was a member of First Presbyterian Church and its Maverick Sunday school class, the Owensboro Rotary Club, the Daviess County Medical Society, the Kentucky Medical Association, and Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Preceding him in death were his wife, Sally Boone Moore in 1991, and his sisters, Hazel Moore Martin and Lucille Moore Dempsey.
Survivors include his son, Dr. L.P. Moore, III and his wife Paula, and their sons, Tyler Christensen and Wesley Christensen, all of Louisville.
Services, officiated by The Rev. Dr. Jonathan Carroll, will be at 12:00 noon Wednesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to First Presbyterian Church.
