Louis Patrick "Pat" Wedding Jr., 90, of Philpot went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014. He was born Dec. 4, 1923, to the late Louis Patrick Sr. and Oma Hagan. Louis graduated from St. Mary's High School in Whitesville and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church for more than 61 years and was a founding member of the church's choir. After 44 years of service as a mechanic, Louis retired from Texas Gas. He was a man who wore many hats and was involved in many civic and religious organizations. He was very involved with St. Vincent de Paul in Owensboro and was the past president as well as a board member of the organization. He volunteered his time and resources to help the Ohio County Equestrian Club for the Handicapped and also was a member of The Holy Name Society. Louis often was seen in front of Rural King participating in the Tootsie Roll fundraiser which benefited his various organizations. He was instrumental in the reactivation of Whitesville Knights of Columbus Council 2046 where he held several offices including that of grand knight and district deputy. He was a member of the Owensboro Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly where he also held several offices including that of faithful navigator. Pat called himself a "sundown farmer," as farming was his passion, and he raised tobacco, corn, livestock and horses.
Louis also was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Clifton and
Charles William Wedding; a sister, Sue Sapp; and a grandson, Michael Pollock Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Bertha Alice Wright Wedding; children Patricia Stelmach (Todd), Alice Pollock (Terry), Judy Hayden (Joe), Susan Tierney (Larry), Dennis Wedding (Cindy), Steve Wedding (Cindy), Jim Wedding (Glenda), Bill Wedding (Tammy), Lisa Poole (Ron) and Bob Wedding; a brother, James Wedding; sisters Raymunda Calhoun and Mary Howard; grandchildren Karla Davis, Jenny Stelmach, Kevin Stelmach, Abbey Freels, Josh Hayden, Ben Hayden, Matthew Tierney, Daniel Tierney, Patrick Tierney, Nick Tierney, Drew Wedding, Zachary Wedding, Hannah Wedding, Austin Wedding, Cole Wedding, Jacob Wedding, Johnathon Wedding, Blake Wedding, Sophie Wedding, Megan Poole, Allie Poole, Evan Poole and Emma Poole; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be at noon Saturday at SS. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory where prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
