Lorene Saylors

Lorene Groves Saylors, 97, of Owensboro, passed away on Monday September 12, 2011 at Hillcrest Healthcare Center. She was born on March 25, 1914 in Todd County, daughter of the late Horace M. and Etta Corinne Heltsley Groves. She graduated from Drakesboro High School in 1932 as valedictorian of her class. She had worked for the Dupont Corp. and during World War II, trimming windows in military vehicles as they were being manufactured. She then worked for the Federal Department Store in Detroit, MI for 20 years before retiring. She moved back to Kentucky to take care of her ailing mother. Mrs. Saylors was a member of Breckenridge St. United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Leslie Ray Saylors in January of 2001 , and a daughter, Donna Dodge on June 10, 2011. She was the last of 13 siblings in her family.

Surviving is a daughter, Janet L. (John) Peterson of Saline, MI, three grandchildren, Scott Peterson of Hesperia, CA, Steven Peterson and Jennifer Miller, both of Saline, eight great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Betty Groves of Owensboro, and 24 nieces and nephews. She had many friends and will be greatly missed.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 14 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Heltsley Cemetery in Clifty (Todd County), KY. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
