Lorene Burden Hardy

Lorene Burden Hardy, 88, of Owensboro went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at her son's home surrounded by her family. Mrs. Hardy was born April 23, 1928 in Dawson Springs to the late Clifford A. Belcher and Lillie Mae Belcher. She worked at many grocery stores including Atherton's and was known by many as the wonderful lady who managed the deli at Wetzel's (later Wyndall's) grocery stores. Her family knew her as a loving mother and grandmother who was also an excellent cook. Lorene was a devoted member of Gracepoint Baptist Church, the Amvets, VFW, and American Legion. Socially, she love dancing and listening to music as well as playing shuffleboard and billiards.

Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her first husband, Shultie "Russ" Burden, in 1971. In 1973, she married Ernest Hardy who passed away in 1983. She was also proceeded by her sisters, Thelma Murphy and Opal Brown and a brother, James Belcher.

Survivors include her sons, Danny Burden and wife DiAnna of Whitesville, Roger Burden and wife Judy of Calhoun, Michael Burden and wife Sheri of Owensboro; daughters, Sandy Burden also of Owensboro and Kathy Hudson and husband Mike of Calhoun; sister, Phyllis Howard; brothers, Jerry and Randall Belcher; 15 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

The service will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, August 18 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Mitchell Donahue officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 and Thursday from 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
