Lorena Elizabeth Stephen, 88, formerly of 405 East 23rd. St. Owensboro passed away August 7, 2010 at her home. Born in Daviess County on December 31, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Peter Jacob Ebelhar and Clara Catherine Weber Ebelhar. Following graduation from Daviess County High School, she attended and graduated from St. Mary's School of Nursing in Evansville. She married Benjamin Edward Stephen in 1944 in Ottumwa, IA and following World War II, they returned to Sorgho and raised their family. She enjoyed gardening and sewing and was a 4-H sewing leader. Mrs. Stephen retired as a registered nurse from Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; sons: Spencer Stephen and Joe Stephen; a granddaughter, Andrea Stephen; brothers: Maurice Ebelhar and Dennis (Martine) Ebelhar; brothers-in-law: James Gilles, Houston Stephens, Ferdinand Stephens and Henry Wimsatt; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Stephen (Henry) Wimsatt.
Surviving are daughters: Elaine Stephen Grant (Patrick Morton) of Owensboro and Theresa (Larry) DeVincent of Leesburg, IN; sons: Randahl (Mollie) Stephen and Eric Stephen both of Owensboro, daughters-in-law: Karen (Larry) Pollard and Donna Mullican Stephen; sisters: Margaret (John) Reisz and Clara Marie Gilles of Owensboro; brothers: Vincent (Mary Phoebe) Ebelhar and Kenneth (Stansell) Ebelhar of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Sorgho with Father Mark Buckner officiating followed by burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday with prayers at 7 p.m. at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation on Wednesday will be 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the St Mary Magdalene Building Fund or to Hospice of Western Kentucky.
