Loren J. Purcell, 85, of 2206 W. 5th. St., Owensboro, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Ohio Co., Ky. to the late Arastus & Ophelia Purcell. He was the retired owner and operator of Purcell Sanitation Service and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed Nascar racing, U. K. basketball, raising his garden and flowers and loved spending time with his family. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ora Swope and Susie Crowe and a brother, Samuel Purcell.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Ozetta Purcell, three sons and their wives, Jack & Sharon Purcell of Owensboro, Jim & Paula Purcell of Greenwood, In., and Gary & Liz Purcell of Clarksville, Tn., four daughters and their husbands, Janet & Ivan Phelps and Pam & Mike Knight, all of Owensboro, Linda & Jim White of Peru, In., and Marilyn & Edward Sumner of Nashville, Tn., 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews.
Services will be 2:30 P.M. Thursday, August 17 at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in South Hampton Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 1:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
