Lloyd Johnson

Lloyd Johnson, Jr., 86, of Owensboro, died Thursday, August 27, 2009, at the Western Kentucky Veterans Center in Hanson, KY. He was born March 31, 1923, to the late Lloyd, Sr. and Katherine Kennerly Johnson in Lake Charles, LA. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he was active in the Beacon Sunday School Class. He was a Navy Veteran of WW II and a graduate of LSU and received his teacher certification from Western Kentucky University. He lettered in track both at LSU and WKU. He had been a member of Habitat for Humanity and was track coach for the Boys Club. He retired from General Electric after 32 years of service.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Holiday.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Sarah Johnson; four sons, Don (Debbie) Johnson of London, KY, Brad (Alida) Johnson of Houston, TX, Jeff (Donna) Johnson of Hopkinsville, Barry (Lisa) Johnson of Owensboro, a daughter, Gretchen (Joe) Wilk of Owensboro; eleven grandchildren, Erik, Lori, Meredith, Brenda, Bianca, Katelyn, Colby, Annie, Christopher Johnson and Emily and Mary Beth Wilk; a sister, Sue Jones of Lake Charles, LA.

Services will be 10:00 AM Monday, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday and after 8:30 AM Monday at the funeral home. Military Honors by the U.S. Navy will be given at the cemetery.
