Command Sgt. Major Lloyd Lee Babb, retired, 82, of Owensboro, died Thursday, August 06, 2009, at the Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born October 25, 1926, in Sussex County, VA. He retired after 28 years of active service, having 20 years in the Airborne Division and served in WW II, Korean and Viet-Nam conflicts. He was a member of the VFW Post 696, American Legion Post 9, the Am-Vets, and he enjoyed fishing and watching baseball.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Babb in 1975, and a daughter, Gloria Lynn Babb in 2002.
Survivors include his sons, William (Melinda) Babb of Owensboro, Robert (Madonna) Babb of Maceo, and Rev. Sam (Muriel) White of N.C., a daughter, Carol (Rondall) James-Basham of Owensboro; his long time companion, Edith Main and her children; Rick Beaver, Lori Sumner and Lisa Main; fourteen grandchildren, David Craig, Becky Craig Mattingly, TSgt. Christopher Craig, USAF, Jennifer Babb Roberts, Lindsey Babb, Selisa Babb Davis, Bobby Babb, Sarah Babb, Susan Babb, Andrew White, Rev. Wesley White, Alyssa Beaver, Kaeley Sumner, and Alexie Frantz; thirteen great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2009 at American Legion Post 9 in Owensboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 696, 311 W. Veterans Blvd., Owensboro, KY 42301, or American Legion Post 9, 118 West Veterans Blvd., Owensboro, KY 42303. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
