Dr. Lindsey Hammond Horn, Jr., 86, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at his home. Born in Daviess County on December 17, 1922, he was the son of the late Lindsey and Molly Bell Horn; earned his bachelor and master's degree from the University of Kentucky in Animal Science followed by a Ph.D. at the University of Illinois; was an executive with Swift & Company in Chicago for 25 years and then was a professor at Eastern Kentucky for 10 years. Dr. Horn was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church where he was a member of the Beacon Sunday School Class; past Chairman of the Deacons; and was very active (Past Board President) of the Sunrise Children's Services Program. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the European Theater of Operations in 1944-45.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mary Helen Wilder Horn; daughters, Linda (Monty) Gover of Somerset and Mary Kathryn (Reggie) Zears of Naperville, IL; a son, Steven Horn of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Preston Gover, Lauren Gover (Joe) Van Zee, Grant Gover, Rachel Zears, Brandon Zears, Andrew Horn and Robert Horn; a sister, Clara (Carl) Hawes of Owensboro; and nephews, David (Jeffie) Hawes of Owensboro and Danny (Faye) Hawes of Greensburg.
Services are 3:30 p.m. Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Glenn Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Strahan officiating followed by burial in Yellow Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-3:30 p.m.
Saturday.
