Linda Payne Sowders, 85, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, April 27, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born December 23, 1940, to the late William and Mildred Payne. Linda was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
Linda devoted over 40 years to Texas Gas, retiring from Williams, where she served with distinction as a legal administrator and paralegal. Beyond her career, Linda was a woman of varied passions and talents. She found joy in knitting and crocheting, which she expressed her creativity and patience. Music also held a special place in her heart; she delighted in playing the dulcimer, filling her home with gentle melodies. Gardening was another cherished interest, especially the nurturing of flowers, which brought color and life to her surroundings. Social and lively, she enjoyed playing cards, particularly the game of bridge, engaging friends and family in spirited competition and camaraderie.
Family was at the core of Linda’s life. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. Every year, she orchestrated a family vacation, a tradition that brought everyone together to create lasting memories. Their typical destination was Gulf Shores, a place she adored for its serene beaches and warm embrace. These vacations were a reflection of Linda’s generous spirit and dedication to fostering family bonds.
In addition to her parents, Linda is preceded in death by her loving husband, William Sowders Jr.; and brothers, Tommy Payne and Donnie Payne.
