Linda Lee (Payton) Cecil, 78, of Owensboro, passed away Wednesday, January 7, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born May 2, 1947, to the late Rev. Charles and Lucille Payton.
A devoted member of Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church, Linda lived her life with a remarkable dedication to her faith. Her unwavering commitment to her beliefs was evident in how she loved and helped others, how she loved God, and accepted his will patiently. She found great joy in prayer and scripture reading. Linda was known for her warm and caring nature, always making everyone feel welcomed and loved. She enjoyed shopping and found delight in traveling whenever she had the opportunity. Linda's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with faith, compassion, and adventure. Her presence will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Linda is preceded in death by a brother, Rev. Rex Payton; sisters, Betty Payton Sandefur and Nel Payton Martin; brother-in-law, Wayne Cecil; and her beloved dog, Maggie.
Those left to cherish her memory include her loving husband of 58 years, Vincent A. Cecil; children, Victoria Cecil and Charles Christopher Cecil; sister, Shirley Payton Hays (Jim); brothers-in-law, Wendell Sandefur, Carl Martin, Perry Cecil, Donald Cecil (Vicky), Kenneth Cecil (Sheila) and Martin Cecil; her furry companion, Marcellino; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
The funeral Mass for Linda will be 11 AM Tuesday, January 13, at Sts. Joseph and Paul Catholic Church. Visitation will be Monday, at Glenn Funeral Home from 4 PM until 7 PM, with prayers taking place at 6:30, and Tuesday, from 9 AM until time of Mass at the church. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
