LillianSadie Sample Johnson, 87, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at home. She was born August 29, 1919 to the late David Harry and Edna Pearl Snell Sample in Eau Gallie, FL and grew up in Fort Pierce, FL. She attended Queens College in Charlotte, NC and graduated from Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL.
She was a housewife and teacher of English and music in the Owensboro Public School and Daviess County Public School Systems, once named teacher of the year statewide. In the 1960s she volunteered at the Wendell Foster Center in Owensboro and after retirement at the Longfellow Adult Education Center. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Kentucky Education Association and Settle Memorial Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, R. Ben Johnson, of Owensboro: her two sons, David Johnson (Rita) of Louisville and Jim Johnson and his wife, Lydia of Owensboro; her two granddaughters, Vickie Johnson of Denver and Anna Johnson of Owensboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 4:00 PM Saturday, at Glenn Funeral Home, with visitation from 2:00 until 4:00 PM Saturday. Memorial contributons may be made to the charity of your choice.
