Lillian L. Hamilton, 94, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on October 28, 2026, at the Heartford House. One of 10 children, she was born on January 20, 1932, in Muhlenberg County to the late Robert and Mary Lois Fulkerson Schroader.
After her husband passed away in 1963, Lillian raised her five children on her own in Muhlenberg County. The family later moved to Bowling Green for a short time, where they had running water in their home for the first time, before settling in Owensboro. Lillian worked as a seamstress at Anderson’s Department Store and then went to work for her sister at Welborn’s as a floral designer, retiring after more than 40 years.
Lillian’s talent with a needle wasn’t limited to her work. She sewed her children’s clothes herself and took pride in keeping them well dressed. She loved working in her garden, and she was never happier than when she was cooking for the people she loved. Her chicken and dumplings were the dish everyone hoped to see on the table.
Her greatest joy was her family. Lillian treasured every moment with her children and passed on to them her strong faith and the value of hard work. She also cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Lee Cottrell; husband, Auther “Art” Hamilton; sons, Anthony “Tony” Cottrell, Michael “Mike” Cottrell, and Brian “Keith” Cottrell; brothers, Williard Schroader, Mitchell Schroader, Sherman Schroader, and Carl Schroader; and sisters, Irene Harrington, Wanda Smith, and Mary Knight.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Carolyn Abel (Gene) and Roy Cottrell (Vickie); 10 grandchildren, including special granddaughters, Cortney Blacklock (Jared) and Leslie Bradshaw (Jarod); 5 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jane Miller and June Webster
The funeral service for Lillian Hamilton will be 2:00 pm Saturday, October 31, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm on Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens
