Leroy Melvin

Leroy Melvin, 88, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born April 28, 1926 in Paintsville to the late Roy and Stella Robinson Melvin. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. Leroy was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University where he met the love of his life, his wife Nancy. Following graduation, he became a pharmaceutical representative for over 20 years in the Louisville and Lexington area. He later returned to Paintsville and opened "Leroy's Furniture Store" which he ran for about 10 years until his retirement. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing bridge. Leroy was a very kind and compassionate person and was dearly loved by his family and many friends. He was known for his wit and great sense of humor.

Leroy was also preceded in death by a son, James Scott Melvin in 1998, two brothers, John Walter Melvin and Charles T. Melvin, and a sister, Patricia M. Knight.

Surviving are his wife of 65 years as of today, January 27, Nancy Snow Melvin, a son, Dr. Walter Lee Melvin and wife Linnea of Chesapeake, VA, a daughter, Nancy Melvin Harrison and her husband, Dr. William C. Harrison of Owensboro, seven grandchildren, Amy Melvin (Charles) Anderson, James R. (Lauren) Melvin, Kathryn Melvin, Nancy Melvin, Laura Harrison, Jessica Harrison, and Courtney (Josh) Magdici, two great grandchildren, Grant and Baylee Anderson, a sister, Shirley (Roger) Short of Paintsville, a brother, David Powell Melvin of Lexington, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 28 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. Dr. Jonathan Carroll officiating. Burial will be in Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 9:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
