Leon Stokley, 65, of 820 W. 7th. St., Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at home. He was born in Elizabeth City, N. C. to the late Henry & Ethel Jones Stokley. He was a longtime cook for various restaurants in Owensboro and had last worked at the Elizabeth Munday Senior Center. He was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed cooking at home, fishing, football, playing with his grandchildren, and going to the two Hardees Restaurants here and drinking coffee with his friends. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Lenward Stokley and a sister, Mary Ann Jernigan.
Surviving is his companion of 34 years, Jane Walls, three stepsons, Phillip Walls of Louisville, Anthony Walls of Evansville, In., and Stephen Walls of Owensboro, four stepdaughters, Pamela Acton, Cynthia Johnson, and Janie Fenwick, all of Owensboro, and Tonya Walls of Charlotte, N. C., two grandchildren, Darin Higgs and Ashton Walls, both of Owensboro, five brothers, Ernest Stokley, Roy Lee and wife Brenda Stokley, and Curtis Stokley, all of Elizabeth City, Henry and wife Ida Stokley of Patterson, N. J., and Otis and wife Jeanette Stokley of Owensboro, and two sisters, Helen Stokley of Elizabeth City and Barbara and husband Tyrone Stokley of Atlanta, Ga.
Services will be private. Glenn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
