Lendle Ray Stuart

Lendle R. "Len" Stuart, 79, of Owensboro passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the Owensboro Medical Health System after a lengthy battle with leukemia. Born in Belton in Muhlenberg County near Dead Man's (Stuart's ) Curve on March 6, 1929, he was the son of the late Tom and Eva Draper Stuart; a member of First General Baptist Church for over 47 years where he served as deacon for 42 years; and was a graduate of the former Hughes-Kirk High School in 1948 where he was President of his class. Mr. Stuart served 2 years in the Army (1951-53) with 13 months in Korea and was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He retired in 1976 from Can-Tex Industries after 22 years as traffic manager and sales coordinator. Then he co-founded Lee Brick and Block in Owensboro where he retired in 1995 as co-manager of the brick division. Mr. Stuart was a KY Colonel; former member of the Chamber of Commerce; a 52 year member of Owensboro Masonic Lodge #130, F&AM, where he served as Master in 1964 and served on the Masonic Temple Board of Directors for over 12 years; and was a 50 year member of TPA where he served as Post President and State President. He enjoyed camping, traveling, working in his garden and taking his grandson on several trips, and spending time with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Franklin "Tick" Stuart, T.W. Stuart, and Charles R. "Bob" Stuart, two sisters, Pauline Mowry and Eva Mae "Charlie" Hayden.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Joyce Joines Stuart; a daughter, Benita Lynn (and Keith) Sutton of Owensboro; a son, Keith Dewayne Stuart of Owensboro; a grandson, Brandon Keith Sutton, of Owensboro; and sisters, Erma Stuart Hardison and Isabell Stuart Coy both of Owensboro.

Services are 2 P.M. Wednesday, April 9,2008 at Glenn Funeral Home with burial to follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by VFW Post 696. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday and after 9 A.M. on Wednesday. Masonic services will be at 7 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.
