Lena Catherine Bennett Gatewood

Lena Catherine Bennett Gatewood, 99, of Maceo, Kentucky passed away August 23, 2017 at Wellington Parc of Owensboro. She was born December 1, 1917 to the late Tom and Arrie Collins Bennett.
Lena was employed thirty-five years at General Electric with only a short break to raise her only child to school age. Upon retirement, she became a homemaker and enjoyed canning garden produce with her husband.
She was always a loving, dedicated wife to E.J., mother to Donald J., and considered others before herself. In her later years, Lena became an avid reader of The Bible, having completed it many times. She contributed to Yelvington Baptist Church regularly.
Lena was a proud grandparent and at the age of eighty-four she traveled to England, on her first flight and first time abroad, for Amanda's wedding.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Emmett Jefferson "E.J." Gatewood; brothers, Byron and Roy Lee; and sister, Ida Ruth Head.
She is survived by her son, Donald J. (Jeannette) Gatewood of Monks Eleigh, United Kingdom; granddaughters, Amanda J. and Megan R.; and several nieces and nephews.
Lena also leaves many close, loving neighbors who have been such good friends to her through the years. The family is forever thankful for the kindness they have shown her and this extends to the staff and caregivers of Wellington Parc for their professionalism and kindness shown in her final years.

The service will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 11 in Christ Chapel at Owensboro Memorial Gardens, where entombment will follow.
