Lelia K. Burton, 92, of Harvard Drive, Owensboro, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at her home. She was born to the late Edgar F. and Rutha (Smith) Koontz and was a 1935 graduate of Daviess County High School and a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church and had volunteered in the church nursery. She retired from General Electric after 39 years. She loved her grandchildren and taking care of them, and was called "Granny" by everyone. She also enjoyed walking.
She was preceded in death by a son, Durwood Staples Jr.
Surviving are two daughters; Lynn B. (Don ) Goodman and Ruthie B. Hayden of Owensboro, brothers; Leslie Theo Koontz of Owensboro and Harlie A. Koontz of Sacramento, California, seven grandchildren; Cammy (Mike) Dunn, Chris (Susan) Staples, Chance Matthews, Diana (Chris) Rumage, Sean (Ashley) Cundiff, Casey (Jennifer) Cundiff, Carly (Lee) Smith, and a special person whom she babysat with when she was younger; Brittany Porter, and thirteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m.Friday, March 7, 2008 at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Treon officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children.
