Lee Roy Walker

Lee Roy Walker, 86, of Owensboro, died Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. The Daviess County native was a member of the Third Baptist Church; Masonic Lodge 130 F&AM, and the Travelers Protective Association (TPA) of which he had served as State President, Post G. President, and was instrumental in the establishment of the TPA Scholarship for the Deaf. Mr. Walker had worked in tobacco all his lifeas a government inspector, buyer for A.C. Monk, and operated warehouses throughout the South including the Center Brick and Planters Tobacco Warehouses in Owensboro. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Mr. Walker was an Army veteran of World War II and had served in the South Pacific where he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Mildred Smeathers Walker on June 5, 2003.

Survivors include two sons and their spouses, John David and Becky Walker of Owensboro, Dr. James and Nancy Walker of Mobile, AL; a daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Robert Sutherland of Athens, GA; six grandchildren, Lee Anne Glover of Cumming, GA, Jill Ryan of Winder, GA, Natalie Walker of Mobile, Al, Eden Walker of Mobile, AL, Laura Walker of Owensboro, and Matthew Walker of Murray, KY; three great-grandchildren, Lauryn Glover and Jackson Glover of Cumming, GA and Payton Ryan of Winder, GA.

Funeral services are 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 16, 2004 at Glenn Funeral Home with entombment in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5-8 P.M. on Thursday, April 15 and after 9:30 A.M. on Friday.
