Lee Roy Shaw, age 90, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at the Carmel Home.
He was born on February 12, 1936, in Whitesville, to the late James Lester Shaw and Eunice May Shaw of Whitesville. He was also preceded in death by his wife Velma Miller Shaw, five sisters; Virginia May Shaw, Martha Rose McGrew, Marie Shaw, Louise Shaw Osteen, and Mary Ellen Shaw. Lee Roy was a member of Hebert Baptist Church and loved his Lord and Savior. He was a graduate of Daviess County High School class of 1954. He also was a graduate of Weaver Airline Personnel School in Kansas City, Missouri. Lee Roy held a Weather Certificate from NOAA. This knowledge was used for observations for inbound and outbound flights for Eastern Airlines and Ozark airlines during the 1960s and 1970s. He worked for 32 years for the airlines in ramp services and customer services; and retired from TWA Airlines in Louisville. He was a member of the AFL – IAM. Lee Roy was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He enjoyed the research and genealogy of his family and after retirement, he enjoyed spending afternoons with his grandchildren. Lee Roy had a true love of nature and the land and enjoyed gardening, farm shows, flowers, and lawn care, and was always helping friends, neighbors, and others in his community. He enjoyed hunting and sharing time with his son and grandchildren.
Lee Roy is survived by his son Terry Lee Shaw and wife Kristina Elliott Shaw of Owensboro, and daughter, Talea Renay Shaw, of Richmond; three grandchildren: Davin Lee Shaw (Kate), Diana Lyn Shaw Emerson (Elliott), and Dalton Elliott Shaw. In addition, he is survived by a brother James Harlan Shaw of Owensboro, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Wednesday, September 9, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Bruce Pierce officiating. Burial will follow in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10 AM until 1:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
