Lawrence Edward Pierce, Jr. 71 of Owensboro passed away May 2, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Owensboro on Mar. 6, 1943 to Lawrence and Lena Pierce. He served in the United States Air Force during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was employed at a China Factory in the 60's, The Chicago Tribune in the 70's and was a long distance semi-truck driver from the 80's until he retired. He enjoyed driving the semi ''Papaws Big Truck'' and was proud of the fact that he had been to almost all 50 states. Larry was of the Baptist faith and spent countless hours every day reading his bible. He loved singing Gospel, Charlie Pride, and George Jones songs. He could Karaoke anytime someone was up for the challenge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Bullington Pierce, his son, Matthew Alan Pierce, his parents, Lawrence and Lena Pierce, and all of his 5 sisters: Dorothy, Mary, Betty, Nellie, and Ramona.
He is survived by his son Mark A. Pierce (Tammy Williams) of Owensboro, his daughters Tracy Pierce and Mary Alice Pierce of Grandview, IN, his daughter-in-law Melissa Pierce of Grandview, In., his three grandchildren: Trevor A. Pierce of Owensboro, Mark Alexander Pierce and Emily K. Pierce of Grandview, In., his honorary granddaughter Desiree Clark of Grandview, In,, his mother-in law, Margaret Bullington of Rockport, In (formerly of Owensboro), numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Airforce Memorial Fund
Services will be 2:00 pm Monday May 5, 2014 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday and after 12:00 noon on Monday. Burial will follow at Rosehill Cemetery
