Lawrence "Larry" Johnstone

June 18, 1942 — November 30, 2016

Lawrence "Larry" Johnstone, Jr., 74, of Owensboro died Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at Owensboro Health Memorial Hospital. Larry was born June 18, 1942 in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Lawrence H. Johnstone, Sr., and Gwendolyn Gardner Snow.

He was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Air Force and warehouseman for SuperValu in Greenville where he retired after 30 years. He was a life member of the VFW and an active member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church and former member of Greenville Methodist Church before moving to Owensboro.

Larry is survived by his wife and love of his life of 49 years, Sue Carrol (Allen) Johnstone of Owensboro; a son, Eric Johnstone and his wife Karen of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Michelle (Johnstone) Adams and her husband, Greg of Owensboro. Larry was also blessed with four grandchildren: Alex and Ella Adams both of Owensboro, and Beck and Skylie Johnstone both of Dallas, Texas. Survivors also include his three sisters: Judie Stevens of Whiting, Maine, Sandra Hill, and Debbie McVicar (Fran) of Calais, Maine, and his brother, Bruce Johnstone (Eva) of Madisonville, Kentucky; and several nieces and nephews, who all affectionately refer to him as Uncle Skippy.

As a former member of the Cotillion Club in Greenville, Larry loved to dance. He was often the first person on the dance floor, and usually the last one to leave it. An avid fisherman, Larry would spend an entire day at a local stream or lake with nothing but a fly rod. And if there was a game on, whether it was basketball on television or one of his children or grandchildren playing sports, he always had just the right hat to cheer them on. Larry truly touched the lives of all who knew him, and one thing was constant: he wore a smile that would light up a room.
