Lawrence H. Girtman, 85, of 4100 Silent Doe Crossing, Owensboro, passed away on Friday, July 21, 2006 at his home. He was born in Grantsburg, Ill. To the late Herbert Lee & Bessie Ann McBride Girtman. He was World War II veteran and retired from the U. S. Navy after 22years and from Civil Service after 11 years. During the war, he was a prisoner of war in Japan for 42 months until the end of the war. He was a member of Sorgho Baptist Church and the Effingham, Ill. Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed carpentry work and fishing.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Ruth Girtman, his daughter and her husband, Sinda & Bob Ralph of Owensboro, her son and his wife, Larry & Anne Girtman of Powder Springs, Ga., two grandchildren, Douglas Girtman of Dayton, Oh. and Melissa McElroy of Austin, Tx., and three great grandchildren, Katie & Dawson McElroy, and Cecilia Sharp Girtman, a brother, Roy Girtman of Lamar, In. and a sister, Mary Alice Timmons of Illinois.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 24, at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. The committal service and burial will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday at the Masonic Cemetery in Metropolis, Ill. Visitation will be from 1:00-6:00 P.M. Sunday and after 8:30 A.M. Monday at the funeral home. Full military honors will be performed by the U. S. Navy at the graveside.
