LaVerne M. Speaks, 90, of Owensboro, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at her home. She was born in Dearborn, Indiana to the late Floyd D. and Fannie Mae Moore.
LaVerne was a longtime member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. She spent many years as secretary to David Hocker and in her latter years she served as secretary to Senator Delbert Murphy. LaVerne was a very dedicated volunteer at the River Park Center. She had a passion for the place and people expected to see her there. She was also a Kentucky Colonel, a member of the American Business Women's Association and part of the Quilter's Guild. LaVerne will also be pleasantly remembered for her art of hugging.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles E. Speaks in 2013, her parents and a brother, Roy Moore.
She is survived by daughters, Jennifer McGee of Owensboro; Ange Gabbard and her husband Louis of Florida; Debbie Gordon and her husband Joe of Owensboro; a son, Kevin Speaks and his wife Jalynn of Louisville; granddaughters, Claire Bennett and her husband Richard, Charly Jones and her husband Patrick; grandsons, Jaret Williams and his wife Corrine, Chad Williams and his wife Nicole, Greg McGee, Garrett Gordon and his fiancé Jessica Aull, Michael Shannonhouse and his wife Sally, Jody Speaks and his wife Sherry, Bradley Speaks and his wife Jessica, Adam Speaks and his wife, Atele; great granddaughters, Audrey Bennett, Sophia Yeiser, Lydia Williams, Jasmine Bridges, Betty, Juliette and Brinley Shannonhouse and Celia Speaks; great grandsons, Maxx and Taryn Williams, Kaden Aull, Wyatt, Tyler and Donovan Shannonhouse, Finn, Elliott, Norman and Wilson Speaks and more on the way!
The family would like to offer a special thanks to grandson, Greg McGee and Hospice of Western Kentucky for the dedicated care provided to LaVerne.
The funeral mass will be at 12 Noon, Friday, August 12 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Entombment will be at Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3 until 8 PM, with prayers at 6:30, and after 10:30 Friday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
