Lauren June Girten

Lauren June Girten, 17, of Owensboro, was called home to the Lord on Thursday March 25, 2010 after fighting a battle against a rare form of ovarian cancer for a year and eight months. She was born on February 5, 1993 in Daviess Co., Ky. to June Girten and Benny Girten.

She was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church. She attended Bishop Cotton Elementary School through the 3rd grade and transferred to Highland Elementary in the 4th grade. She attended Daviess Co. Middle School and was a junior at Daviess Co. High School. She played softball for the Catholic schools from age 5 to 11, then transferred to Highland Playground. She started playing for DCHS her 8th grade year, playing first and third bases. She enjoyed playing softball, going to the beach, riding four-wheelers, spending time with her animals, most of all her dogs, Willie and Briley, which she had an unconditional love for. She enjoyed family get togethers and spending time with her close friends, that she has had from her early childhood. And for the last year, her niece Ellie who was her blessing and the one that brought her much love, joy, and happiness.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ruth Ann Payne Luck in 1997, Joe Bill Wells in 2002, and Patsy Girten Freels in 2009.

She is survived by her Moma, June Girten (Keith Conder), her Dad, Benny Girten, Jr. (Jackie Chandler), her brother and sister-in-law, Clint and Sydney Girten, her niece, Ellie Rain Girten, all of Owensboro, her grandparents, Benny and June (Tooley) Girten of Cadiz, Gale Mayton of Owensboro, Tom and Karla Higdon of Morganfield and Jim (Brother) and Becky Aud of Owensboro, aunts and uncles, Cindy Bartley and Carol and Mike Shepherd, all of Sorgho, Tammy Miller of Clearwater, FL, Pat Higdon of Newburgh, IN, Tracie and Tim Ranew of Beech Island, S. C., and Jarrod and Ashley Heltsley of Memphis, TN. Also surviving are cousins, Bobby Kincaid, Angie Kincaid, Dana Morris, Troy Dant, Kayla Bartley, Jenna Bartley, Mason Shepherd, Hannah Ranew, and Elijah Ranew. Extended family includes Stacy Aud, Shelly Bledsoe, Diane Minton, Drew Aud, Chandler Brooks, Reed Brooks, Bryan Angel, Hannah and Haley Minton, and Derek Minton, and several great aunts, uncles, and other cousins.

Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 29 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with Father John Meredith officiating. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Sunday and after 9:00 A.M. Monday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Prayers will be 7:30 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
