Larry C. Westerfield

"Chief" Larry C. Westerfield, 73, of Owensboro passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at his home. He was born August 23, 1941 in Michigan. Larry was retired as Fire Chief of the Daviess Co. Fire Department having served from 1961 until his retirement in 1996. He was a 1959 graduate of Daviess Co. High School. He was instrumental in building the first County Fire Station at the Owensboro-Daviess Co. Airport. He also helped and was responsible for extending water lines throughout the county for hydrants and fire protection. Larry helped form the Green River Firefighters Association where he served as their first president, was a Kentucky Colonel, and was an avid outdoorsman and a member of the Daviess County Fish and Game Association. He was also a member of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul A. Westerfield on January 1, 1984, his brother, James Allen Westerfield, and a step grandson, Nicholas Riney.

Surviving are his wife, Dora Riney Westerfield, his mother, Ruby M. Westerfield of Owensboro, two sons, Byron C. Westerfield and wife Gayla of Owensboro and Larry Todd Westerfield and wife Linda of Columbia, S.C., his daughter, Kimberly Dawn Westerfield of Owensboro, four grandchildren, Carroll Westerfield Dean, Jessica Westerfield Penrod, Paul Allen Westerfield, and Matthew Westerfield, all of Owensboro, six great grandchildren, two stepdaughters, Karla Riney of Owensboro and Julie Howell of Mt. Juliet, TN, two step grandchildren, Laney and Jacob Howell of Mt. Juliet, and Sherri Parker Schrecker of Owensboro who was like a daughter to him.

Services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 27 at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Myke Templeton officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 12 Noon Wednesday at the funeral home.
