Larry K. Slack

Larry K. "Pete" Slack, 65, of Owensboro, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2012 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on December 7, 1946 in Ohio Co. to Edison D. and Annie L. (Latham) Slack. He served in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam Era from 1966-1968. He was recently retired from Ernie Davis and Sons Mechanical and was a previous owner of Ky-Ind. Fire Protection. Pete enjoyed spending time with his family and treasured moments with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending Sunday evenings with his "Real Hacienda" friends; Willie and Debbie Masterson, Paul and Donna Holloway, John and Jennifer Allen, Jeanette Ebelhar and the late Charlie Ebelhar. He was a member of the Iron Indian Riders Assoc. and Patriot Riders Group. He loved riding his 1999 Indian Chief, bowling, and golfing. He was a member of Owensboro Christian Church. Pete was preceded in death by his father, Edison Slack in 1994 and brother, Denton Ray Slack in 1967.

Pete was the beloved husband for 34 years to wife Rita (Basham) Slack, devoted father to daughter Kristin L. Slack of Owensboro, and sons, Mark E. (wife Kylee) Hunt of Owensboro and Keith M. Slack of Fordsville. He is the proud grandfather to Mason Hunt, Larken Roach, Kent Slack, Rebecca Slack, and Hallie Mullen. He is also survived by his mother, Annie L. Slack of Owensboro, father-in-law, Randall Basham, Sr. of Owensboro, brothers-in-law, Randall Basham, Jr. of Owensboro, Michael (wife Terri) Basham of Zion, IL, Darin Basham of Owensboro, Larry Basham of Muhlenburg Co., and Steve Austin of Ohio Co., sister-in-law, Vickie (husband Teddy) Goff of Beaver Dam, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Services will be 12 Noon Thursday, April 5, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with entombment in Owensboro Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday and after 10:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
