Larry Russell "Papaw" Dorris, 72, of Owensboro passed away Thursday, April 27 after a recent struggle with mental health issues. He was born in Evansville, Indiana to the late Russell Oakley and Myrtie Catherine Dorris Starks.
Larry was a tool and die maker by trade, with numerous certifications and qualifications in his field. He spent the early years of his career at Faith Tool and Die Company before moving on to General Electric. Larry retired from Alcoa where he had become a supervisor and training coordinator with 24 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Owensboro Christian Church. Larry enjoyed auctioneering, photography and collecting. He was a talented dancer and was fulfilled by teaching others to dance. His real passion in life was his grandchildren. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by a young daughter, Teresa Dorris and the love of his life, Gloria Dorris.
Larry is survived by a daughter, Deborah Heady and husband Clint of Owensboro; grandchildren, Embry L. Luallen, Phillip R. Luallen and Nate K. Heady; twin brothers, Bill Starks and wife Kim of Henderson and Bob Starks and wife Janet of Louisville; four nephews; step-daughters, Melinda Lee and husband Robbie and Michelle Cary and husband Louie; step-grandchildren, Christopher Lee, Codie Baumert and Katie Jerger.
The funeral service will be 2 PM, Saturday, April 29, with visitation at 12 Noon, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will be at Owensboro Memorial Gardens.
