Larry Garmon Bruce

Larry Garmon Bruce, 86, of Owensboro, KY, died Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Heartford House while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. He was born May 31, 1939, as the only child to the late Garmon and Pat Bruce, in Daviess County. He graduated from Owensboro High School as well as obtained a Master of Arts in Education degree from the University of Kentucky. Larry began his teaching career with two years at Franklin County High School in the business education department in Frankfort, KY. He continued teaching in Owensboro at Eastern Junior High School, Owensboro High School as a teacher and the Business Department Head, and the computer lab at Newton Parrish Elementary School. In total, he taught for 45 years. Larry was a member of the National Education Association as well as the Kentucky Teachers Retirement Association. He was a founding member of the Owensboro Public Schools Federal Credit Union.

Larry was a quiet man of integrity and intelligence who knew scripture and his Savior, Jesus. He was ready and longing to meet Jesus in heaven. Larry was a current, faithful member of First Baptist Church for over 35 years. He grew up at Hall Street Baptist Church and was an active member there for over 40 years. At both churches, he was a Sunday School teacher, deacon, served on the counting committee, and grounds crew for many years. At Hall Street Baptist, he also sang in the choir and a men’s quartet.

Larry enjoyed selling tickets at Owensboro High School football and basketball games for years during and after he taught there. He loved playing softball with the Hall Street Baptist team, watching classic western and army movies, and playing games with his family – especially Rook.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 67 years, Edna; two children, Melody Delk (Terry) of Owensboro, and Keith Bruce of Hendersonville, TN; his grandson, Anthony Scott Delk of Louisville, KY; his brother-in-law, Sam Estes (Kathy) of Owensboro; and several nieces, nephews, and their families.

Services will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at the Glenn Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 2, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, all at the funeral home. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. There will be no graveside services.
