Larry J. Allen

Larry J. Allen, 80, of Owensboro, passed away Friday, January 24, under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. He was born February 23, 1944, to the late Iven and Mary Edith Allen. Larry was a member of Blessed Sacrament Chapel. He dedicated his career to empowering individuals with disabilities, helping them gain self-dependence and access to essential resources. Larry’s work as a vocational counselor for the state of Kentucky reflected his genuine care for others and his commitment to making a positive impact in their lives. He was a graduate of Owensboro Catholic High School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Brescia University, laying the foundation for a life devoted to service. His patience, sincerity, and genuine love for life were the hallmarks of his character, allowing him to connect deeply with those around him. Beyond his professional life, Larry was an avid traveler and a lover of the outdoors. He found joy in exploring the beauty of nature, whether by kayaking or embarking on long drives along the backroads of Kentucky. His adventurous spirit led him to visit every state in the U.S. and travel to Canada, forging connections with friends and family across the continent through his keen interest in genealogy. Larry's life was a testament to living fully and authentically, and his passion for animals showcased his gentle and nurturing nature. He radiated positivity, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 18 years, Marsha Allen; sons, Eric Howard (Ashley) and Chris Howard; and granddaughters, Maddy Howard and Mackenzie Howard. 

The funeral mass for Larry will be 10 AM Thursday, January 30th, at Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 PM until 7 PM at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, with prayers taking place at 6:30. 

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Heartford House, 2914 Old Hartford Road, Owensboro, KY 42303 or Blessed Sacrament Chapel, 602 Sycamore St, Owensboro, KY 42301. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
