Lana Hardesty Chaney

Lana Hardesty Chaney, 76, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2026, at Redbanks Nursing Home in Henderson. She was born on December 2, 1949, in Daviess County, to the late Rolla “R.H.” and Fay Farley Hardesty.

Lana graduated from Owensboro Catholic High School in 1967 and began a remarkable 29-year career in telecommunications. She started at South Central Bell in Owensboro, where she worked for 12 years before moving with her husband, Audie, to Salt Lake City, Utah. There, she continued her career with Mountain Bell Telephone Company before transferring to AT&T.

Lana's dedication and strong work ethic led her to new opportunities throughout the country. She advanced into management at AT&T's headquarters in New Jersey, where she served as a Level 1 Manager. In 1989, she relocated to Orlando, Florida, to take on the role as a Billing Control Manager. She eventually returned home to Owensboro, where she worked remotely for her final year before retiring from AT&T in 1998. Never one to sit still for long, Lana continued to enjoy working in several part-time positions during her retirement.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Lana had a wonderful appreciation for life's simple pleasures. She loved vacationing in Florida, spending time on the golf course, camping and enjoying the beauty of nature. She also enjoyed shopping for antiques and collecting art. Whether exploring a new destination or discovering a unique treasure, Lana found joy in the things that made life interesting and beautiful.

Lana was also preceded in death by her brother, Pat Hardesty; a brother-in-law, Tom Wright; and a granddaughter, Piper Chaney.

Lana is survived by her husband of 56 years, Audie Chaney; her two sons, Travis (Christy) Chaney and Shawn (Gina) Chaney; grandchildren, Justin (Haley) Chaney, Steven (Jessi) Chaney, Ryland Chaney, Bre Griffith, Michael Chaney, Morgan Chaney, Lucy Jagoe Chaney and Stone Chaney; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Warren Chaney ; siblings, David (Karen) Hardesty, Mike (Robin) Hardesty, Willie (Kathy) Hardesty, Karen Wright, Kathy (Kenny) Shoemaker, and Mary (Dennis) Raley; and her favorite four legged companion, Herbie.

Alzheimer’s Poem-

Do not ask me to remember, do not try and make me understand.

Let me rest and know you are with me. Kiss my cheek and hold my hand.

I’m confused beyond your concept. I am sad and sick and lost.

All I know is that I need you to be with me at all cost.

Do not lose your patience with me. Do not scold or curse my cry.

I can’t help the way I’m acting. Can’t be different though I try.

Just remember that I need you, That the best of me is gone.

Please don’t fail to stand beside me, love me till my life is done.
