Dr. L. Robey Crowe, 66, of Owensboro and Ormond Beach, FL, died Monday, November 19, 2012, in the Florida Flager Hospital in Palm Coast, FL. He was born in Owensboro to the late Algie Yewell and Sarah Emily Robey Crowe. He graduated from Daviess County High School in 1964, Western Kentucky University in 1968, and the University of Louisville School of Dentistry in 1972. Dr. Crowe practiced general dentistry in his own practice, Owensboro Family Dentistry, for 40 years before retiring in December of 2011. He was very active in his field, completing over 3,000 hours of continuing education, a lifetime member of the American Dental Association, a member of the Kentucky Dental Association, the American Society of Preventive Dentistry, served as president, vice-president and secretary-treasurer of the Green River Dental Society, received the Dr. Donald P. Newsom Award for Excellence in Organized Dentistry, was a charter member of Academy for Sports Dentistry and American Association for Functional Orthodontics, was an off-campus teacher and mentor for the University of Louisville Dental School, University of Kentucky Dental School and the Western Kentucky University Hygiene School, was on the medial staff of Owensboro Medical Health System and served as the Kentucky Wesleyan College Sports-Team dentist for over 30 years. Dr. Crowe was also very active in his community where he served on the board of directors for the Carmel Home, was a charter member of the Owensboro YMCA, the founder of the Daviess County Middle School Booster Club, President of the Daviess County Middle School PTO, and he was President of the Daviess County High School PTA where he was instrumental in acquiring a new outdoor track and football field for the school. Among his professional and civic duties he also found time to support his alma mater, University of Louisville, where he was a member of the Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity, active member of the Alumni Association, member of the Cardinal Club and was a Second Century Society member. He loved his family, friends, dental profession and patients. His favorite past times were spending time with his grandchildren, golfing with friends and family, and a lifelong pursuit of learning.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Gail M. Crowe; children, KC Crowe Trivette and her husband Marty of Hartford, CT and L. Robey (Rob) Crowe II and his wife Mary Cash of Birmingham, AL; siblings, Tom Crowe of Ormond Beach, FL, David Crowe of New Albany, IN, and Barbara Strahin of Beverly, WV; grandchildren, Grant Crowe Trivette, Zoe Camille Trivette, Trenton Cash Crowe, and Robey Elizabeth Crowe.
Services will be held 12 on Saturday in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday and after 11 on Saturday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Owensboro Memorial Garden.
