Kimm L. Richards-Witte, 38, of Owensboro, passed away Thursday, April 16 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born in Owensboro to Larry Richards and Mickey Richards Gray. Kimm graduated with honors from Daviess County High School in 1995. She then earned her nursing degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College, where she was ranked top in her class. Immediately upon graduation she went to work at OMHS where she found her passion as a Cardiac Care Nurse for 13 years.
Kimm was also an award winning journalist and poet. She received a governor's award for outstanding achievement in creative literature.
Kimm was a community activist who fought publicly and tirelessly for the LGBT Community and human rights. She was deeply rooted in her community, serving on several non-profit boards and committees.
Kimm loved music and reading. She was also gifted as an artist and designer. Her talents were awarded by the Owensboro Christmas Parade, Owensboro Trail of Treats, Glenmary Sisters and many others. She found great joy in raising funds that supported causes closest to her heart.
Her greatest achievement was her loving family which included her husband of 17 years, David Witte and daughter, Valentine Richards. She is also survived by her mother, Mickey Richards-Gray; father, Larry Richards (Virginia); brothers, Adam (Megan), John and Cody Richards; nieces, Adagen, Alaina and Andrea Richards; many close friends; and three beloved dogs, Lilly, Beatrice and Sadie.
Kimm was preceded in death by grandparents, Rolla Richards, Jr. and Beatrice "Skeeter" Richards.
Services will be private. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory is handling arrangements.
