Kermit Chandler, 73, of 3509 Cannonade Loop North, Owensboro passed away Thursday, September 27, 2007 surrounded by his family after a courageous fight with lung cancer. He was born on December 1, 1933 in Dixon, KY to Mary Irene and Beckham Chandler. He retired from the Kentucky Department of Revenue after 33 years of service as a field representative. After retirement he continued to work for another 10 years as a part-time enforcement officer in the Finance Department for the City of Owensboro. He was a member of First General Baptist Church in which he previously served as Trustee and Financial Secretary and was a member of the Crusaders Sunday School Class. He was recently attending Yellow Creek Baptist Church. Mr. Chandler was an extraordinary man who loved the Lord.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling to new destinations, watching University of Kentucky basketball, and the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a very generous man who enjoyed helping many people during his life time.
He was preceded in death by his father, Beckham Chandler in 1974, his first wife, Patsy Holloman Chandler in 1987, and his mother, Mary Irene Chandler in 1994.
Survivors include his wife, Elise Daugherty Chandler; his daughter, Kathy Withers of Brentwood, TN; his step-daughters whom he loved as his own, Laurie Sapp and her husband Ronnie, and Nikki J. Sebree, all of Owenbsoro; grandchildren, Kristen Withers and Michael Withers, both of Brentwood and Bryan Sapp and Isaac Sebree, both of Owensboro; and his brother, Tommy Chandler and his wife Bonita of Providence, KY.
Services are 2:00 PM Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home with Brother Johnny Hibbs of Lynnville, IN, Brother Herschel Morgan, and Brother James Wedding officiating followed by entombment in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-8 P.M. on Friday and after 9 A.M. on Saturday. .
