Kenneth E. Newsome, Sr., 80, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday December 5, 2009 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born in Letcher Co., Ky. in eastern Kentucky on June 20, 1929 to the late Robert and Icie Parker Newsome. He was very proud of his roots in Letcher Co. having been raised in a coal mining family and having been a miner himself early in his life. Kenneth was a member of Owensboro Christian Church and was retired from the Chrysler Corp. in Dayton, OH after 26 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a very loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather and his family were the most important and specials things in his life. The last year of his life, during his struggle with cancer, he carried himself with his characteristic dignity and composure. He maintained his strength and gentle nature, not wanting anyone to know that he was not well. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Katherine Newsome in 1953, two sisters, Edna Taylor and Alice Root, and two brothers, William and Cecil Newsome.
He is survived by his wife of 58 wonderful years, Deloris, two sons, Kenny Newsome, Jr. and wife Robin of Dayton, OH and Steve Newsome and wife Kim of Owensboro, 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a brother, Jack Newsome of Gary, IN.
Services will be at 12 Noon Wednesday, December 9 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial with military honors will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.
