Kay W. Baker, 67, of Philpot, died Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at the Owensboro Medical Health System. The Monticello native was the son of the late Claude and Clara Flynn Baker. He was of Baptist faith and retired from Whitehall Furniture as an upholsterer. A graduate of Utica High School, Mr.Baker was the captain of his basketball team and was voted Mr. Utica his senior year. He was an avid sportsman, coached youth baseball for many years, enjoyed hunting and gardening, and was an avid UK basketball and boxing fan. He was an Air Force veteran. Mr. Baker was a great husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by a son Michael Baker in July, 2003 and two brothers, Odell and Forest Baker and two sisters, Elizabeth Skinner and Ruby Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Wanda McDowell Baker; two sons, Steve Baker of Masonville and Tracy Baker of Owensboro; a daughter, Cherie Langford of Fordsville; six grandchildren, Chad and Nikki Bidwell, and Amber, Brandon, Bailee, and Blake Baker; two brothers, Claude Lee Baker of Muhlenberg County, and Jay Baker of Philpot; and a sister, Paula Ratliff of Utica; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are 7 P.M. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Fuller officiating. Committal service will be 2 P.M. Saturday in Utica Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-7 P.M. on Friday.
