Kathy L. Courtney, 66, of Owensboro, went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2026, while under the care of Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Kentucky. She was born on November 8, 1959, in Covington, Kentucky, to James and Kathleen Courtney.
A 1977 graduate of Grant County High School, she later lived in Salt Lake City before returning to Owensboro in 1993. Her career was spent in retail, and many in the community will remember her from her years at Dillard’s and the Piercing Pagoda in Town Square Mall.
Dancing and shopping were among her favorite pastimes, but nothing meant more to her than time spent with family. Game nights were filled with laughter while playing dice and cards, and the nearly weekly Friday family dinners were always a highlight, even if the entire week was spent deciding where to go. Family beach vacations were especially cherished.
Thursday mornings were reserved for her TOPS group, a fellowship she deeply valued. Through these friendships, members supported one another and volunteered their time together at the food pantry.
A special bond was shared with her mother, a closeness she continued in her relationship with her daughter. She was involved in every aspect of her daughter’s life and made sure her daughter always knew she was loved and supported.
Her beautiful blue eyes, radiant smile, and strong sense of family and community will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Courtney.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Megan Hill, and her husband, James; her father, James Courtney; siblings, Vickey Payne (Louie), Margie Autry (Jeff), James Courtney Jr. (Eileen), and Michael Courtney, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Kathy will be held at 4 pm on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 3:30 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family care of Glenn Funeral Home.
