Katherine Irene Fulkerson

Katherine "Irene" Strobel Fulkerson, 76, of Fordsville, formerly of Stanley, was lifted up to Heaven on Sunday August 8, 2010, peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Irene was born on January 5, 1934 in Stanley to the late Lawrence Strobel and Nellie Sapp Strobel Gumbel. She was retired from King's Department Store and was a homemaker. Her passion was sewing, making quilts, crafts, and dolls for her family. She was loved by so many and never met a stranger. She was of the Baptist faith. She was also preceded in death by a sister, JoNell Strobel in 1942, her brothers, Lawrence "Sonny" Strobel in 1950, and John Delbert Strobel in 1998.

Surviving are her husband of 60 years, William "Ira" Fulkerson, two sons, Dennis (Lois) Fulkerson of Utica and Maurice Fulkerson of Fordsville, two daughters, Linda (Kenny) Moxley of Fordsville and Annette (Jerry) Chandler of Birmingham, AL, eight loving grandchildren, Denny (Kathy) Fulkerson, Michael (Serena) Fulkerson, Melinda (Scott) Daugherty, Amy Johnson, Krista Calloway, Sabrina Moxley, Rachel (Will) Payne, and Jerry Chandler, Jr., 10 great grandchildren, Adaline, Sophie, Matthew, Justice, Destinee, Levi, Lilian, Madison, Abby, and Kristen six step great grandchildren, Mary Francis, Nick, John, Bobby Joe, Megan, and Matthew, three sisters, Louise Perkins of Lafayette, IN, Hallie Murphy of Ventura, CA, and twin sister, Pauline (Tom) Fulkerson of Owensboro, and two uncles, Otis Paul Sapp of Owensboro and Roy Sapp of Indiana.

Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Thursday, August 12 at St. Peter Cemetery in Stanley. Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of arrangements.

A special thanks goes out to the James Graham Brown Cancer Center in Louisville, to Dr. Miller, Dr. Chesney, and Karen Carter, clinical research nurse, and to Hospice of Ohio Co. and Shelly Tichenor who made it possible for her to come home to be with her family.
