She was born in Washburn TN on December 9th, 1925, to the late John and Ruth Wilson. She attended Smokey Mountain Academy and went on to earn a BA in English from Carson-Newman University in TN. It was during her time at the University that she met her future husband Rodney Burns. On the day of her graduation she married the love of her life. Following Rodney's retirement in the early 80's, Katherine and Rodney began their mission work through the Southern Baptist Convention. The mission work took them to Africa on three different occasions and many other countries as they traveled to and from the mission field. Each mission trip had them out of the country for over a year. She was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church and held numerous roles within the church. She loved to cook, sew, read, and garden. Katherine also loved to watch basketball and tennis. She had a love of music that spanned all genres but especially enjoyed hymns. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
