Junius D. Stewart, Jr. "JD" died peacefully May 8, 2015 in Annapolis, Maryland, he was 85. Junius Stewart, Jr. was born November 15, 1929 in Owensboro, KY.
JD started his printing career as a "Linotype" operator for the Messenger Inquiry in Owensboro, KY. He served in the Korean War with the Army under President Harry S. Truman and received The Bronze Star Medal. He was later hired with the Government Printing Office and worked on special projects that included proof reading for the President and Astronaut books for NASA. He moved his family from Kentucky to Virginia then to Maryland where he worked for 40 years. He was an avid sports fan, a season ticket holder of the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Redskins and the former Baltimore Colts. He also loved golf, bowling and was passionate about Blue Grass music.
JD is survived by his wife, Dorothy Bastin, his children Vincent (Hannelore), Sharon (Jerry Neal), Ron (Ginger), Junius D. Stewart, III (Martha) and Steve. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, 4 nieces and a nephew. He was proceeded in death by his father, Junius "Jack" Stewart, Sr., mother Henrietta Stewart, Brother Robert "Bob" Stewart, sister "Eloise" Gordon and his grandson Nicholas "Nick" Fornaro.
A graveside service will be held 12 noon Friday, May 15 2015 at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 pm Thursday May 14 2015 at Glenn Funeral Home and and from 10:30 am until 11:30 am on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the International Blue Grass Music Hall of Fame address: 207 East 2nd St., Owensboro, KY 42303.
