Julian G. Hayden

January 28, 1925 — December 2, 2005

Julian G. Hayden, Sr., 80, of Owensboro passed away Friday, December 2, 2005 at his home. Born January 28, 1925 to the late William G. and Mary Thelma Newton Hayden, Mr. Hayden retired from the United States Postal Service after 39 years of service; was former co-owner of Haydens Gulf at he corner of 4th and Wing; worked part-time at Harrelds Drug Store for 18 years; was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church; and a World War II Navy veteran serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters. He was Past President of the KY State and Local Letter Carriers Association, Branch 234; was a charter member of the Owensboro Federal Credit Union serving as their first loan officer for many years. Mr. Hayden enjoyed collecting and refinishing antiques for his family, playing bridge and poker, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by brothers, Gerald Hayden, Daniel Rudolph Hayden, Charles Edward Hayden, and J. Jolly Hayden.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lucille Knott Hayden; sons Julian Sonny Hayden, Jr. (Pat) and Greg Hayden (Debbie) all of Owensboro, Judge Steve Hayden (Janet) of Henderson; daughters, June Hayden and Janet OBryan (Mike) of Owensboro, Rita Main (Joe) and Barbara Van Meter (Doug) of Louisville, 17 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Thelma McGowan of Las Vegas, Theresa Ward of Owensboro, Mary Charlotte Burch of Evansville, Sue Hayden and Jane Cloud both of Louisville; brothers, Paul Richard Hayden of Owensboro, Arthur Newton Newt Hayden of Henderson, Donald Hayden of Louisville, and Michael Hayden of Charlotte, NC and many nieces and nephews.

Services are 11 A.M. Tuesday, December 6, 2005 at Immaculate Catholic Church officiated by Father Timothy Sweeney followed by entombment in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be at Glenn Funeral Home from 3-8 P.M. on Monday and after 9 A.M. on Tuesday. Prayers will be at 6 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.
