Julia Maxine Hartz

Julia Maxine Hartz, 90, of Owensboro passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at The Carmel A daughter of the late Roy and Enola Mitchell Greer, she graduated from Owensboro High School after three years at the age of 17 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She attended business college and then boarded a train alone, bound for Washington, D.C., to find a job to contribute to the WW II war effort. She quickly found an administrative position with the FBI, working primarily with the tracking of prisoners of war within the United States. Following the war she returned to Owensboro and took a position with the Social Security administration. Shortly after, she met Frank Hartz. They married and were completely devoted to each other for 49 wonderful years, until his death in 1995. Because of her happy, carefree, and loving spirit, she was known by those who loved her as Blossom. A wonderful homemaker and cook, she enjoyed entertaining her wide circle of family and friends. Blossom loved the time she spent in Florida, playing golf, and boating. She was a long-standing and active member of First Christian Church and as she raised her children was a volunteer in the library of Blessed Mother school because of her love of reading. She had been a member of the Owensboro Country Club, and the Twenty and Four Club. In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Shirley Dyson and her brother, J.D. Greer.

Blossom is survived by her three sons and their wives, Frank and Janey Hartz, III, Max and Patti Hartz, and Ben Lee and Pam Hartz, all of Owensboro; her grandchildren, Frank Hartz, IV and his wife Mandy, of Owensboro, Jason Hawthorne Hartz of Vero Beach, FL, Hadley Hartz Wheelock and her husband Casner and Max Steven Hartz, Jr. and his fianc Rebekah Phillips, all of Louisville, Ben Hunter Hartz of Owensboro, and Julia Lee Hartz of Bowling Green; her great grandchildren Seth Hartz and Preston Hartz; and her sister-in-law Theresa O'Shea of Bay City, MI.

The funeral service will be at 12:00 noon Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, where visitation will be from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday and after 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Because of weather conditions, burial in Rosehill Cemetery will be private. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Building Fund of First Christian Church.
